HERITAGE RUCKING SHOES

In 1945, Camp Mackall, North Carolina was the forge for the Airborne paratroopers who helped secure Allied Victory in WWII. When two million people filled Times Square to celebrate the end of the war, America marked a triumph of unity, service, and purpose—a generation that returned home to build the country we love today.

We built the MACKALL® 45 to honor that relentless American spirit.

We fused our elite Special Forces rucking chassis with a sharp, heritage suede upper for modern performance and old school looks. This means you can wear one pair of shoes for workouts, travel, and dinner. From a 12-mile overnight beatdown at RUCK OR DIE™ to stepping out in a suit on the streets of NYC, the Mackall® 45 delivers zero-blister comfort, rugged durability, and uncompromising performance out of the box.

FEATURES & SPECS

ZERO BLISTERS OUT OF THE BOX
Our standard was no blisters, no hotspots after at least one hour with 45 lbs on your back, right out of the box - WITHOUT SOCKS ON. To achieve this, even in a sweaty Florida summer, we build a seamless heel transition and 360-degree padding wrapped in synthetic suede to eliminate any hard seams and friction points. They do what they’re supposed to do.

BUILT TO LIVE ON YOUR FEET
We created the rucking revolution and the footwear to support it from the ground up. The special sauce here is the combined support from the midsole foam and the premium insert. Rucking is harder on gear and the people wearing it, so we build it tougher to support your feet over thousands of miles on any terrain.

GOLDEN ERA PIGSKIN SUEDE
Rooted in the WWII heritage of Camp Mackall and old school performance trainers, we built the 45s with top-of-the-line pigskin nubuck suede. It has an iconic look backed by serious toughness. Over time, it breaks in even better than new, and remains supple. You’ll like them a year later even more than you like them Day 1, and that’s not something you hear every day about performance shoes.

ONE PAIR OF SHOES TO RULE THEM ALL
An old school upper with a performance lower that you can ruck all night in, hit a workout (any workout), then dress them up to get to your big meeting or a nice dinner out. You don’t need to travel with 3 pairs of shoes when you have one pair to rule them all.

SCUFF GUARD
Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

SPEARHEAD™

1945
Inspired by the year 1945 when Camp Mackall sent the final Airborne Troopers overseas to secure the Allied Victory, when 2 million people poured into Times Square to celebrate the end of WWII and the Greatest Generation started coming home to shape America in its spirit. Service, sacrifice, duty, country — these are all baked into the ether that we inherited in our service after 9/11.

  • Durability & Airflow: Double-stitched toe and heel caps with strategic vamp micro-perforations for maximum ventilation
  • Testing Grounds: Thousands of miles living on our feet—from 26.2 miles in Normandy and 12 miles overnight at RUCK OR DIE™, to driveway workouts and daily global travel
  • Build Location: Built in Vietnam
  • Care Instructions: Remove insert. Hose them down thoroughly to clean off dirt and sweat, then let them air dry or use a shoe dryer (buy one and put it in your garage, you filthy animal!). Do not use a washer or dryer—it's easier this way, and your shoes will last longer.

A Note from Jason

The GR1® of Footwear

July 2026

Three years after development started, I got on a plane to NYC wearing one pair of Mackall® 45s. I knocked out route recon before the first-ever Ruck Or Die™, grabbed dinner, and headed to the beach under the Brooklyn Bridge for a 1 AM start.

We rucked all over NYC that night, pushing through workouts—including one to honor a buddy who gave his life in Afghanistan. We chased the sunrise, and we found it. When we finally set our rucks down, we drank victory beers overlooking One World Trade Center, where there used to be Two. We felt alive to the core of our being.

When the body’s call for Green Beret Nap Time (GBNT) could no longer be ignored, we answered. But when I woke up, I threw on a suit with that same pair of Mackall® 45s, hit the streets, and added our fuel to the city that never sleeps.

This whole crazy GORUCK adventure came full circle when I rucked past the Lower East Side apartment where we first designed GR1® to thrive in Baghdad and NYC. I smiled ear to ear thinking about how much has changed since 2008, and how the most important things remain exactly the same.

We pour blood, sweat, tears, and love into everything we build. It shows in every step, and in every stitch. You’re going to love them like we love them.

Terrible now but I have hope it will be good soon

"I bought the ballistic trainers last year at size 10 in mens and I think I remember it took some breaking in but do not remember any major pain. This one sliced up the back of my ankle around the achilles almost immediately when I took it for a spin. I really love your company and I am hoping to be able to exchange them for perhaps the 10 or the 11. I am not sure if the 10.5 is too big or too small but there is something wrong if I am bleeding on my achilles."

If rugged and luxury had a baby it'd be this shoe

"Feels like I'm wearing a 1950s catchers mitt around my feet, from the premium feeling leather to the ability to wear them with anything, these shoes are in a class of their own. So far these shoes have a 12 mile ruck complete and 425lb back squats. Absolutely gorgeous."

I am one of the unlucky-Not blister free for me.

"I love the look of these shoes. They are super rugged and awesome. I bought these because of the "zero blister comfort. " I walked around in them for a couple of days and then rolled out for my first ruck. I must be one of the unlucky ones because these shoes fragged by heels to the point where I had to get out of them. I used the merino wool socks too. Just bad luck for me I guess. I tried the heel lock lacing and that didn't work. Had to go and purchase an awl and make another hole and skip an existing one to make them work. Adding a picture for anyone else that might be having this problem."

Great quality - design causes blisters

"I really wanted these shoes to work. They are made really well and look awesome. I got them on a Thursday and wore them around the house over the weekend to kinda break them in. They were very comfortable so Monday I wore them on a 4 mile walk (with my new Rucker bag and 45lb plate). About 2 miles in I started getting some blisters on the back of my heels. I got home and sure enough new blisters. For reference, I wore the same socks I usually wear rucking, with good thickness with extra padding in the toe and heel. The next morning I wore my New Balance shoes that I was wearing before the 45s arrived. Same Rucker with 45lb weight, same 4 miles. No blisters but the soles of feet were sore, which didn’t happen with the 45s. Wednesday I decided to try the 45s again, this time with 2 pairs of socks, Rucker and 45lb on my back. The shoes were a little tighter but felt comfortable until about a mile in when the blistering started. I pushed through the remaining 3 miles and got home to find the heal of my socks and shoes bloody. I’m so disappointed. The 45s solve the plantar fasciitis pain I get in every other shoe I’ve tried but the heel is a real problem. The top of the shoe’s heel is too low and digs into the back of the heel instead of wrapping around the top of the foot. When I compared the 45s to my New Balance you can clearly see the NB heel is higher and wraps around the foot above the heel so you don’t get the rubbing. I included pictures to show the difference. Now the shoes have been worn and are bloody so I’m sure GoRuck won’t let me return them or trade them for a different model. I’m so disappointed. The build quality and the shoes sole are awesome, like the quality of high end boots and better than some expensive brands I’ve bought in the past. For $170, I’d buy every color if they adjust the design of the heel. I wore them to my son’s football game over the weekend and received several compliments and got lots of questions about them. I guess I’ll clean them up and keep them for wearing around the house but I won’t be Rucking in them. The quality is so good I’m going to look another GoRuck model, maybe the boots, and give them a try. And the Rucker…is awesome!!"

Ouch

"My husband bought me these to use on my hikes. My first thought was they were incredibly comfortable. I wasn’t even a half mile into the hike and I felt some discomfort but not severe and I continued to walk. Well 3 miles in and I had to turn around because of pain which meant I had to do another 3 miles with discomfort. I got home and my heels are tore up and the back of my shoes are covered in blood. Love the look of the shoes. Still hopeful that maybe in the future I could heat mold the back…I won’t be doing any sort of hiking for a while now."

Too narrow, too long, causes Achilles blisters.

"These shoes are way too narrow and they rub on the Achilles horribly. This might be because they seem to be a half size longer than the size they put on the label. So if you order them you should get half a size smaller but only order them if you have super narrow feet and hardly any Achilles tendon. Cannot recommend them even though they look very cool."

— And W. (1/5)

Look cool, but. . . .

"I love the look of the shoe, and it feels very comfy. However, and unfortunately after 1/8 of a mile I noticed/felt some rubbing on my achilles, from both feet. I eventually had to swap shoes after 1 mile (luckily just doing park laps and had Rough Runners) with a blister on each achilles. Maybe they were a little big as there was some room length wise but not much width wise. Maybe they weren't tight enough and it caused some slide. I typically use the ankle lock holes on shoes but these don't have them. I guess I just have a really cool looking pair of nice shoes to wear for a casual night out."

Blisters

"Got bad ankle blisters where the loose part of the heel cup is. Now walking around the house to break them in."

— John D. (3/5)

Feels great. Looks good!

"Feels great! I put over 4 miles on my new Mackall 45s and the size was right. Great support and it s bad look, too!"
